Nature Printing with a 6 year old- illustrating a Folktale

The Well of the World’s End

In today’s nature printing class we decided to illustrate one of the stories in a book of Scottish folktales.

The story of a girl who is tasked by her wicked stepmother to collect water from the Well of the World’s End. She is helped by a frog who insists that she fulfill its demands for a night in return. She begrudgingly agrees and in the process it morphs into a prince and they marry later.

Journey to the Well of the World’s End where the frog awaits

We started with our own journey to the community garden where we collected moss mentioned in the story

For Alice, the main part of the story that appealed to her was the journey of the girl to the Well. She wanted the landscape to be covered in snow and tall trees lining the Well.

This is Alice’s version of the story where the Prince does not marry the girl but they go on adventures together. We made the snow with chilli flakes
